The Bach Elgar Choir is proud to commission Der Golem, a newly created choral work written by Canadian composer Charles Demuynck to accompany the iconic 1920s silent film. This ambitious project brings together historic cinema and contemporary composition, offering audiences a rare and immersive artistic experience.
Commissioning new music is central to our artistic mission. It allows us to collaborate with living composers, expand the choral repertoire, and contribute meaningfully to Canada’s cultural landscape.
To support the creation of Der Golem, we have established the Der Golem Commissioning Circle – a community of donors and supporters who are helping bring this new work into being.

• Invitation to an exclusive Der Golem workshop on March 8th where a small ensemble of singers, percussionists, and keyboardists explore excerpts of the score alongside projected film scenes, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the music is shaped to accompany the silent film.
